Studying Maps Changes the Way You Think

For those who are pilots I am sure your thoughts and the way you see life is different. I know my mind works differently. I also believe that those who study maps also think differently; they see things from a totally different perspective.

Almost as if from beyond the average man; almost as if a god looking down on civilization and society and considering what all the chaos down there is about. Why all the hustle and bustle and sound and fury; Hey down there why is everyone one in such a darn hurry?

When you study maps and over lays of data using sophisticated software like ERSI ArcView or ArcData you begin to better understand the world we live in. For those children who grow up using SimCity and designing their own mater planned cities they too would have this benefit.

It behooves us to teach people to better read maps, look at aerial photos and go up in aircraft, helicopters and look around to get a different perspective you see. I believe this would indeed make them better voters, politicians, teachers, business people, drivers and much better understanders of the flows of our civilization.

For those who plan our highways, transportation systems, utilities and future expansion projects they understand what I am saying here. Studying maps changes the way you think and perceive the world and that is a good thing. Consider this in 2006.
